Palm Beach County LOWER TAXES NOW

For over 5 years now I have been actively involved with trying to curb the massive municipal spending spree which has brought the Palm Beach County economy to the brink. Unfortunately, road blocks still exist; career politicians who refuse to step back into the private sector after a term or two in office, corruption, cronyism and abuses of the system, apathetic taxpayers who are too busy fighting for their survival, or too wealthy to be bothered with tax reform, and a compliant local media.

Fortunately, however, we have national headlines helping clear the way. Five years ago, things were too good for tax reform efforts to take hold. Money was flowing and politicians easily defeated most reforms. Now we have a "bad economy" for the politicians to blame everything on. And blame they will. But I don't care how the cut backs come or what excuse they give for doing it. They are long over due. Examples are everywhere of what is coming. Riots in Greece. Entire blocks of vacant homes in Detroit. Bankruptcy in California, sweeping immigration laws in Arizona and Tea Parties in every city. All of it points to the mess created by a government that works to empower itself and not the people.

We are a nation of laws and yet somehow, those empowered with making the laws, have manipulated them in order to grow government so rapidly and excessively that it is now our greatest threat to liberty. Politicians have shown us in recent decades that they will go to any lengths to get into office and stay. Forever. Once there, they quickly lose touch with the citizens they are supposed to represent and begin to bend to the will of special interest groups and government unions, spending freely on programs and entitlements that have no public mandate and that are not sustainable. Before long, government spending consumes more than the private sector can support, and the entire system starts to collapse. And collapsing we are.

Whatever is wrong in Washington, starts at home with who we elect to send there. Many of these career politicians begin their lifelong careers on the public dime as city council. When they get to that power seat in Washington, they are already 'working for the other side'. We need to enact term limits on every office and we need to send private sector people to serve us. In the meantime, we need to keep better tabs on what they are spending our money on, wherever they sit. One group in Florida is doing just that.

PBC LOWER TAXES NOW  is a nonprofit, nonpartisan citizen budget review board in Palm Beach County charged with studying municipal budgets, publishing the findings and pushing for reforms.

Based on the book 'Building a Better Local Government' by Matthew Falconer, the Lower Taxes Now program is taking off in Florida. Just a little over a year old, Lower Taxes Now is already in 24 counties statewide, and counting. This eye-opening book is a must read if you are concerned about excessive government spending.

Our Executive Board is made up of Palm Beach County Citizens who are concerned about unsustainable spending in Palm Beach County and want sweeping reforms. We meet regularly in conjunction with county commission meetings and workshops to study spending requests and provide a counter balance to the constant demand by unions and special interests for more and more taxpayer money. We are, in essence, the people's lobby.

If you would like to learn more about our group and become involved, click our website link below. We issue regular email alerts and press releases about our activities and we always have a need for volunteers.
